Nadi readings are an ancient form of divination in India. The word Nadi is derived from the Sanskrit word for "vein" or "artery." The reading is performed by a person called a Nadi Reader, who uses the palm of their hand to read. A Nadi reading can be done on oneself or on another person. In order to do this, one has to hold both palms outstretched in front of them and place them together so that they are touching at their tips. One hand should be placed over the other with right over left and vice versa. The index finger should be bent towards one's thumb, and the thumb should be held straight with all other fingers closed tightly around it.
This gives rise to two rows of three lines each, which represent nine channels or Nadis: Sushumna, Ida, Pingala, Ganga, Yamuna, Sarasvati, Godavari, Kaveri, and Narm.
